Dielectric Presentations Reach Key Audiences in Mexico and Brazil
November 16, 2009 -- DMN Newswire--2009-11-16--Dielectric Communications, a division of SPX and a leader in broadcast antenna systems, today announced that John Schadler, the company's director of Advanced Antenna Development, was among the experts selected to speak at the 2009 Broadcast & Cable Show in São Paulo, Brazil, this past August and that Keith Pelletier, Dielectric's director of engineering, was chosen to present at the Mexican Association of Broadcast Technicians and Engineers (AMITRA) conference in Mexico City. The contributions of Schadler and Pelletier at these key events reflect Dielectric's growing focus on delivering its industry-leading antenna solutions to the Latin American marketplace.
At the Broadcast & Cable Show, Schadler spoke on the topic of "Understanding Reliability in Mobile TV." The presentation described the results of Dielectric's recent experiments illustrating that transmission of circular polarization to a linearly polarized receiver provides approximately 5 dB of margin improvement over horizontal and vertical transmission in a depolarized fading environment. While the initial tests were performed in Dielectric's anechoic chamber, which provided a controlled environment, Schadler also discussed the results of new local tests. These tests compared real-world field data with Dielectric's initial conclusions, demonstrating how the choice of circular polarization for mobile TV relates to service reliability and spatial immunity of a handheld device.
Attended by more than 60 participants, Pelletier's presentation at the AMITRA conference focused on the options and solutions available to AM radio engineers as they migrate their transmissions to FM. Pelletier described the characteristics of FM broadcasting, the key requirements for an FM system, and how Dielectric products address each of the requirements according to antenna type. In addition, Pelletier covered IBOC combining methods and points to consider when converting to IBOC, a topic that is of particular interest in the Mexican radio broadcasting community.
"As we continue to expand our market share beyond the U.S. broadcasting industry, high-visibility international forums as the Broadcast & Cable Show and AMITRA have become increasingly important to us," said Dielectric President Garrett VanAtta. "We always look forward to meeting new groups of broadcasters in other countries and demonstrating how our antenna solutions can meet their specific requirements."
