Redpine's Lite-Fi(TM) 802.11n Chipset Interfaces to ADI's Blackfin processors enabling new applications demanding higher data throughput

October 27, 2009 --

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Redpine Signals, Inc., a leading developer of ultra low power multi-standard wireless chipsets and systems, today announced the successful integration of Redpine Signals ultra low power 802.11n Lite-Fi(TM) SoC products with the Analog Devices' Blackfin processor, enabling a complete video streaming solution with 802.11n Wi-Fi?? connectivity.

The integrated solution includes the Blackfin ADSP-BF561 and the Redpine 802.11n module RS9110-N-11-04. The Redpine RS9110 802.11n chipset is interfaced to the Blackfin processor via a memory mapped interface. A uClinux(TM) operating system runs on the processor and the solution demonstrates full throughput and compliance to the single stream modes of 802.11n, including WPA2 security modes. With minimal host overhead, the integrated platform enables a wide variety of applications such as multimedia equipped handheld devices and Media boxes.

"The integration of Redpine's 802.11n SoC product with the Blackfin processor provides customers with high performance, future proof 802.11n wireless capabilities," said Mike Haidar, Product Line Director, General Purpose DSP, Analog Devices, Inc. "Our processor provides developers with numerous video compression methods including H.264 and MPEG, integrated audio codecs, streaming video and IP protocols, on-chip DRAM memory, and interfaces for 10/100 Ethernet, USB and SD storage, and now importantly 802.11n Wi-Fi?? connectivity through Redpine's RS9110 ultra low power 802.11n SoC," he added.

Redpine's Lite-Fi product family includes ultra low power chipsets and modules for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz operation with SDIO, SPI and memory-mapped host interfaces; and self-contained modules for high end consumer, industrial and medical applications. The Lite-Fi 802.11n SoC was among the first devices certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance for Voice-over-WiFi applications and incorporates state-of-the-art WLAN Security, QoS and advanced 802.11n features like STBC. The RS9110 products stand out as the choice of wireless connectivity in emerging applications, with the increasing emphasis on the use of a universal IP based network in a high performance 802.11n environment

"The performance of the successfully integrated solution validates the fundamental differentiations we have brought into the Lite-Fi product family with over 8 years of R&D efforts in low power and high performance wireless technology," said Venkat Mattela, CEO of Redpine Signals. "With RS9110 SoC and roadmap product offerings, we are enabling seamless 802.11n Wi-Fi?? based wireless transport to a large number of applications served by highly differentiated Blackfin processors," he added.
