Science Celebrity Geoff Notkin Appearing at Phoenix Comicon This Weekend
June 03, 2014 --
Tucson, AZ, June 03, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Author and science writer Geoff Notkin, who starred for three seasons on the international hit television series "Meteorite Men," today announced his appearance schedule for this weekend’s Phoenix Comicon. The annual event, taking place June 5-8 at the Phoenix Convention Center and surrounding hotels, is expected to attract a record 65,000 visitors.
On Friday, June 6, Notkin will be participating in the "Scientist-Creator Mixer" from 8-10 p.m. local time. This informal gathering connects scientists seeking creative outlets for their expertise with writers, artists and game designers in need of a science consultant for their projects. The mixer will be held in the Sundance Room of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 122 North Second Street, in downtown Phoenix.
The following evening, Saturday, June 7, Notkin is a special guest for the panel discussion, "Super Science," which explores the science of superheroes. The panel is set for 9-10 p.m. in Meeting Room 125 AB, Phoenix Convention Center North Building, located at 100 N. 3rd Street. For complete details on Phoenix Comicon, visit www.phoenixcomicon.com.
Notkin is attending Friday’s Scientist-Creator mixer as a prolific science writer and one of the world’s foremost meteorite hunters, but also has a long history of creative endeavors. He graduated from New York's School of Visual Arts, where he studied cartooning, photography and illustration, and once worked for legendary cartoonist Harvey Kurtzman, founder of "Mad" magazine. Notkin has also been an actor, producer and associate producer on various film and television projects.
Additionally, he is the author of two books, "Meteorite Hunting: How To Find Treasure From Space," and "Rock Star: Adventures of a Meteorite Man." The title of the latter is a play on words showcasing his dual paths as a rock hound and former professional rock 'n' roll musician. Both books are available for purchase at http://geoffnotkin.com/books.htm.
Notkin’s appearance at Phoenix Comicon comes on the heels of a successful swing through California in May, where he spoke at two major space conferences: Spacefest VI in Pasadena and the International Space Development Conference in Los Angeles. He will be returning to Los Angeles on June 26 for the premiere of "Radio Free Albemuth," the latest film adaptation of a book by celebrated science fiction writer Philip K. Dick. Geoff is an associate producer on the film.
Meanwhile, filming is set to begin on new Season 3 episodes of "STEM Journals," the educational TV series which Notkin hosts. The show airs on Cox channels 7 and 1007 in Arizona, On Demand in the FreeZone on Cox Cable, on the Cox7 app (iOS and Android), and the Roku® streaming box. Full episodes and video clips are available for viewing worldwide at http://www.cox7.com/stem-journals.
