Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan on Sprint and T-Mobile Merger Getting Closer

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 30, 2014

Sprint would like to merge with T-Mobile and that merger may be getting closer, says The Kansas City Star, May 20.

industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.

Softbank finished their acquisition of the majority share of Sprint last summer. While there have been no announcements as of yet, next they are setting their sites on T-Mobile.

There have been stumbling blocks like getting regulator approval. Regulators have not made any official announcements, but it seems they would prefer to see big four wireless competitors, especially since T-Mobile seems to be growing once again, says Wireless Analyst Jeff Kagan.

However other new merger announcements in the wireless and telecom space may make a Sprint T-Mobile sound better to regulators. First Comcast and Time Warner Cable announced their intention to merge. Next AT&T and DirecTV announced their intention to merge. In that world Sprint and T-Mobile would become even smaller third and fourth place competitors. Letting them merge would let them compete on a more even playing field. Says Principal analyst Kagan.

So all of a sudden the industry is beginning the next big wave of mergers that will redefine the leadership in wireless, telecom, television and the Internet. In that world Sprint and T-Mobile winning regulatory approval seems much more do-able, says tech analyst Kagan.

So well have to keep our eyes open for a Sprint T-Mobile merger announcement. I have a gut feeling we will see this sooner rather than later, says technology analyst Kagan.
