Delaware Attorney Prepares To Head To Washington, D.C. For Supreme Court Hunger Strike To Warn Nation Of The Dangers Of Employer Social Media Monitoring

Controversial Delaware attorney, Brian Zulberti, Esq., creator and owner of http://www.brianzulberti.net announced earlier today that he will begin a hunger strike directly outside the steps of the United States Supreme Court on June 2, 2014. The hunger strike is designed to warn the nation about the dangers of employer social media monitoring.

Over the past year, Zulberti has advocated "adapting the law to the future" and the imposition of a "strict separation between our professional lives and our social lives." He predicts that privacy will become a relic of the past over the next couple generations as scientific discovery and technological breakthroughs continue to combine with the growth and proliferation of the social media era. Zulberti cautions that we are headed for a "self imposed version of George Orwell's famous novel 1984" unless we immediately demand that employers cease "searching the social media accounts of their employees and firing because of unpopular opinions or lifestyle choices." According to Zulberti, his hunger strike will begin June 2 at 6:00 A.M and "will continue around the clock until one of two things happens-


1)     A major national television network agrees to give him 90 seconds to speak to the nation, on a weeknight, during prime time.
(2)    He requires hospitalization for exhaustion or malnutrition."

"Either alternative works fine for me. My goal is to do my part to warn this nation. Speaking for 90 seconds in front of millions of viewers will allow me to do that. The headline "Attorney Collapses On Steps Of Supreme Court After Ten Day Hunger Strike" will work too." Zulberti did quip, on local radio, that, "he'd rather be on television than in the hospital." He urged his fans and supporters to share his materials on message on social media and to contact television news stations early and often, during his hunger strike, to "use the court of public opinion to make sure his message gets heard."

Zulberti has announced that the entire hunger strike will be viewable on his website, via live video feed, in order to "ensure the integrity of the strike." He also has hinted that he has "multiple promotional tricks up his sleeve to ensure his hunger strike remains fresh and entertaining." Zulberti made this announcement by posting a self-recorded video, shot just outside the Supreme Court, on his personal Facebook page and his Facebook fan pages earlier this afternoon. He added in his video that he is "terrified" of the "self-imposed torture" he will suffer but stresses that "this cause is more important to him than his physical health or well being."

Zulberti has promised more information and updates over the next couple weeks as the days count down to his Hunger Strike.

Over the past year, Zulberti has been no stranger to both national and international press. His media roller-coaster began after he received heavy publicity for an "unconventional job search" when he included pictures of himself wearing a sleeveless muscle T-shirt along with an E-mail soliciting legal employment. Shortly thereafter, reporters pulled some scandalous "underwear selfies" from his personal Facebook account.

Zulberti, indignant that his legal skills were being questioned because of his personal life and his social media accounts, did not follow conventional wisdom, set his Facebook preferences to Private, or keep a low profile. Instead, pressing for a strict separation between our professional lives and our social lives, Zulberti posed completely nude pictures on his website coupled with extremely provocative captions- inviting yet another wave of intense publicity.

More recently, Zulberti has been on the road, full-time, on a self-dubbed "50 State Social Media Campaign" which consists of him traveling across the country, covering social media-related firings that he finds particularly unjust, and reported speaking engagements. His website contains an interactive map that allows the user to follow him across the country and see what he's been up to in the states he has visited.

Zulberti has received criticism from the beginning for his naked pictures, for blatant, in-your-face sexuality, a blunt manner, and frequent profanity. He admits to being often called a "shameless attention seeker." When asked whether he should consider changing his content, or his image, in order to reach a larger percentage of the population with his message, Zulberti responded with an emphatic no. "Like I said in my USA Today feature, I'm not going to win any popularity contests. I've never been able to win a popularity contest anywhere I've ever been. I'm not interested in changing who I am to advance my cause. Authenticity and honesty are my core values, and I will retain them at all costs. I'm going to keep fighting to get my message across, but I'm not going to hire a public relations team or run a single (expletive) word I say through an approval algorithm."

Whether this strategy works for Zulberti remains to be seen. Since becoming a member of the Delaware Bar Association, there is no indication that Zulberti has practiced law or represented any clients. It appears he gets the majority of his earned income from a recent website design business he has started. When asked, Zulberti responded, "Do you think anything I've done has been because I was trying to make as much money as possible? Does this look like a get rich quick scheme? I work around the clock, often eighteen to twenty hours a day, as an advocate. And I'll continue to do so."
