R&S CLIPSTER(r) plays key role in UHDTV trial at SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation
May 08, 2014 --
Sky Perfect JSAT was looking for a system capable of playing out a 4K XAVC file via baseband (4x 3G SDI) in 60p realtime. As there also was the need for a 4K editing system, the company decided to introduce two R&S CLIPSTER(r) mastering stations.
R&S CLIPSTER(r) has been a pioneer in the 4K market for many years and has an excellent reputation in 4K production facilities. The mastering station enables realtime processing of material up to 4K for editing, and also supports RAW formats of numerous digital cinema cameras, including Sony F55 and Canon C500.
Since XAVC was qualified and chosen as the final production codec by SKY Perfect JSAT, R&S CLIPSTER(r) additionally allows bit rates of 600 Mbit/s and 960 Mbit/s to be played in 60p baseband and also offers transcoding capabilities into 4K XAVC, based on any other source file format. Furthermore, 3D LUT conversion between the color spaces ITU Rec.709 (HDTV) and ITU Rec.2020 (UHDTV) is also possible. In addition, R&S CLIPSTER(r) offers support for RAW data debayering for Sony F55 and Canon C500.
Masakazu Shibazaki, Broadcasting & Production Engineering Division Team Leader at SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation: "4K verification experiments will be conducted in full swing from now on. R&S CLIPSTER(r) has been working well and I expect excellent performance as the experiments go on."
Simon Roehrs, Regional Manager Broadcast and Applications at Rohde & Schwarz: "The change from SDTV to HDTV was really amazing. The change from HDTV to UHDTV is a quantum jump. Rohde & Schwarz is continuously investing in new breathtaking technologies such as UHDTV to address the demands of the broadcast market. We extended the R&S CLIPSTER(r) capabilities with 4K baseband playback based on a single 4K XAVC file in 60p realtime to support SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation UHDTV workflow crucially."
