Polyonics Introduces New True-white Laser Markable Label Material With Enhanced Durability for Applications Involving High Temperatures and Harsh Chemicals

Polyonics, Westmoreland, NH. Polyonics has released XF-539, a newly developed white laser markable label material (LML). This new product joins the Polyonics black LML material, the XF-537, and is likewise designed for increased durability and readability in applications where harsh environments (high temperatures, harsh chemicals, etc.) surpass the capabilities of the traditional thermal transfer printable label materials (TTP).
The Polyonics XF-539 LML construction includes a 25µm (1mil) polyimide film, durable, cross-linked true-white topcoat, pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) and 55# glassine liner for handling and die cutting. Numerous types of low power lasers including CO2, UV, vanadate, fiber and YAG variants can easily image the XF-539 and produce consistent, high contrast and highly readable linear and 2D barcodes and alpha-numeric characters.
LML Materials Also Help Optimize Direct Part Marking Processes
The polyimide based LML product is the first true-white LML product on the market. It also surpasses the durability of the PET and acrylic label materials due to the superior physical properties of polyimide. These include higher temperature and chemical resistances, superior dimensional stability, tear resistance, dielectric strength, etc.
The Polyonics XF-539 is designed to optimize direct part marking systems (DPM) and help lower manufacturing costs by increasing bar code contrast and improving read rates. They also allow manufacturers to mark in-process QC and test data directly on the labels during the manufacturing process. In addition, using LML materials in concert with DPMs helps simplify the rework process by allowing relabeling and re-positioning of laser marked data and images.

The XF-539 is available with a variety of PSAs and liners to best suit each application. The PSAs include acrylic, silicone and low surface energy (LSE) for strong adhesion to different types of surfaces and temperature/chemical conditions. Applications for the XF-539 include;
