RFMD(R) Expands Portfolio of Antenna Control Solutions for 4G LTE Smartphones and Tablets
February 25, 2014 --
- New routing switches, antenna tuners and impedance tuners help solve RF complexity and maximize total antenna efficiency
- RFMD's antenna control solutions to support leading flagship smartphones anticipated in 2014
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 26, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq:RFMD), a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance radio frequency solutions, today announced the addition of multiple new products to its expanding portfolio of antenna control solutions (ACS). The new products further expand RFMD's industry-leading family of routing switches, antenna tuners and impedance tuners to support the newest 4G LTE smartphones and tablets. RFMD's ACS products maximize power transfer to the antenna and optimize radiated efficiency at the antenna, greatly enhancing the smartphone user experience by improving battery life, increasing data throughput and extending talk time. RFMD has secured key design wins for its antenna control solutions in the leading flagship smartphones anticipated in 2014.
Key new additions to RFMD's ACS family include the RF1149 routing switch, the RF1141A and RF1107/8/9 antenna tuners, and the RF1155 impedance tuner. The RF1149 is a low on-resistance single pole quadruple throw (SP4T) routing switch which helps improve link quality and data throughput. The RF1141A is a rugged, low loss single pole double throw (SPDT) antenna tuner, and the RF1107/8/9 is a family of programmable tuners optimized for radiated efficiency of all active bands in multi-band LTE mobile devices. The RF1155 is the successor to RFMD's recently announced first generation impedance tuner, the RF1105. Both the RF1105 and RF1155 optimize power transfer to the antenna, while the RF1155 adds advanced carrier aggregation capabilities.
As frequency bands proliferate, cellular antennas are required to operate over wider bandwidths, greatly increasing the need for RFMD's ACS family. According to industry analyst firm Strategy Analytics, the proliferation of multi-band LTE devices is expected to drive phenomenal growth in shipments of antenna tuning components, reaching 1.8 billion units per year by 2018.
RFMD offers the industry's broadest portfolio of high-performance RF solutions covering all major air interface standards, including average power tracking- (APT-) and envelope tracking- (ET-) enabled multimode multi-band (MMMB) and discrete PAs, APT and ET PMICs, antenna tuners, impedance tuners, routing switches, low noise amplifiers (LNAs), antenna switch modules (up to 21 throws), switch filter modules, and switch duplexer modules. RFMD is leveraging its deep engineering resources to combine its best-in-class products and technologies into complete RF front end solutions that are tailored to each individual customer application.
RFMD is presenting the Company's expanding portfolio of high performance RF solutions for smartphones, tablets, and other broadband mobile devices at the 2014 GSMA Mobile World Congress, held February 24 to February 27, 2014, in Barcelona, Spain.
