Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 15, 2014
On February 13th, Restaurant Brokers Robin and Eric Gagnon were joined on their restaurant radio show by Alton Brown, superstar in the culinary world and multi-faceted host on Food Network.
Brown has served as the culinary commentator of Iron Chef America for 11 seasons, and hosted Next Iron Chef for 5. In 2012 he joined the cast of Food Network Star as a mentor and yes...one of his team members won. Brown took home the James Beard Award for top food show host in 2011 and the medal bookends match nicely with the one his first book nabbed in 2002. Speaking of books, hes written 7, the last three of which made the New York Times Best Sellers List.
Alton Brown is adding a new element to his historic career with the launch of a two-hour variety show that he told the restaurant brokers, has been cooking up in his head for about 2 years. The Edible Inevitable Tour stops in Atlanta on February 28 at the Fox Theatre. The performance features, according to the megastar, lot of puppets, film pieces, some stand-up, food experiments and more. Hes even performing six food songs from an upcoming CD.
The Food Network superstar warns the audience that the onstage demonstrations may produce, airborne particulate matter of a sticky nature. When asked by Restaurant Broker Eric Gagnon to elaborate on the poncho zones, Brown is quick to point out, We offer ponchos to the first two zones and goes on to say, Im not paying for dry cleaning. If you are offered a poncho, wear the poncho.
Asked by restaurant broker Robin Gagnon where the Alton Brown brand would be in ten years he responds with perfect candor saying, If I started trying to manage myself as a brand, Id probably start sucking. According to the superstar he has built my career on trying to develop and establish a unique set of skills. I would rather concentrate as much of my time as possible on my unique attributes.
Is Brown a creature of habit or willing to try something new each time he visits a restaurant? He tells the restaurant brokers, I like restaurants where the menu doesnt change for ten years. I will go to a restaurant and have the exact same thing every time.
When asked what advice he would give to an aspiring young chef who wants to own a restaurant, Brown passes along a piece of wisdom given to me from Chef Bobby Flay the day I met him. The advice, Never take from a partner what you can borrow from a bank.
Asked if hes a risk taker, he replies yes and goes on to describe the riskiest thing hes done in his career. When I decided to give up my career directing TV commercials and go to Culinary School In Alton Browns words, We call it the great rolling of the dice.
That roll of the dice paid off for this megastar. Listen to the full interview for more tips from one of Food Networks largest stars. Listeners can tune in on February 15th at 12 Noon EST to Atlantas AM Talk 920 and Sunday February 16th at 1PM on Biz 1190.
