Johnine P. Barnes, a shareholder at international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP served as co-convenor of the Business in Morocco and Africa Practical, Legal, Business and Economic Considerations panel at the National Bar Association (NBA) Summit on Business and Judicial Reform in the Kingdom of Morocco. Ms. Barnes, along with Greenberg Traurig Shareholder Vicky Beasley McPherson, Singleton McCallister (Partner, Williams Mullen), Hicham Naciri (Deputy to the President of the Confederation Generale des Entreprises du Maroc), and Lois Wright (Executive Vice President and General Counsel at the Inner City Broadcasting Corporation and General Counsel of the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters) participated on the panel, which took place January 23, 2014 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Marrakech, Morocco at the annual Midwinter Meeting hosted by the National Bar Association.

According to the NBAs press release, the annual meeting of the National Bar Association Judicial Council convenes leading voices from across the political and ideological spectrum, including policymakers, business leaders and members of the press, to address the civil, human and judicial rights of all persons in the United States and around the globe. Ms. Barnes is the chair of Greenberg Traurigs Labor and Employment Practices Statutory Compliance and Contracts and Regulatory Group and also serves as National Bar Association General Counsel.

Ms. Barnes practice includes litigating and defending administrative claims of harassment, retaliation and discrimination on the basis of age, race, sex and disability; wrongful discharge and breach of contract issues; and client compliance with federal and state statutes governing employment, including compliance with federal contracting regulations and the applicable statutory provisions. She also has counseled and represented companies, government agencies and associations on labor law issues, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as analogous state statutes, collective bargaining, grievance arbitration and National Labor Relations Board proceedings, as well as various business litigation matters including non-compete agreements.


Ms. McPherson is a shareholder in Greenberg Traurigs Global Energy & Infrastructure Practice Group. She represents clients in matters around the world, including those located in Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and South America. Her representative matters on behalf of institutional and private equity investors include representing the fund sponsor in the formation of Global Energy and Power Fund, securing lending in the energy sector for major financial institutions and advising on first-mortgage term loans, mezzanine and permanent financings, participating loans, construction loan facilities, securitized financings and syndicated credit facilities. Additionally, she has represented governmental entities and a range of borrowers and lenders in the private sector, assisting clients in the negotiation of a variety of acquisition, construction and development loans.
