PRODUCER/ENGINEER ARIS ARCHONTIS CHOOSES SOLID STATE LOGIC DUALITY FOR NEW FACILITY

First North American Installation of Next-Generation Console

DMN Newswire--2007-2-1--Producer/engineer Aris Archontis has taken delivery of North America?s first Solid State Logic Duality console. The large-format Duality, which combines the analogue sonics of legendary SSL E, G & K Series consoles with extended Digital Audio Workstation integration capabilities, is housed at his new, Chris Pelonis-designed private recording studio, Archon.

Archontis has been working with recording artists and independent bands since relocating from London to Boston, where he graduated from Berklee College of Music. Migrating to Los Angeles, where he worked for two production companies, he has now completed his personal studio and resumes music production with SSL?s next-generation Duality.

?Everything has moved very fast,? Archontis says of his young career. ?I decided to create a private facility to allow me to concentrate full-time on writing and production.?

To equip the new studio, he recalls, ?I had done a lot of research and was looking for a long time. I didn?t want to compromise, so when Duality came along, it was like someone had finally answered my prayers. Groups, plenty of busses and sends, automation, unparalleled routing, DAW control and a great master section?all under one hood with incredible sound quality, and no giant power supply in sight. Coming primarily from a digital background, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to satisfy my DAW needs while bringing the fun part back into recording and mixing music. Duality surpassed my expectations.?

Duality is designed to closely integrate with the operator?s workstation of choice, and offers a wealth of creative and sonic options. The console has a unique split channel path that enables channel processing to be placed in the input or monitor path of the workstation. In addition to a SuperAnalogue? mic amp, each channel features a Variable Harmonic Drive? input stage designed to add analogue character to sterile workstation outputs. A 2nd to 3rd harmonic drive control provides a range of tones, from the warmth of 50?s tubes to the ?edge? of 70?s transistors.

There are both E and G series equalizers and peak sensing or RMS /over-easy compression to choose from. Duality offers VCA style or moving fader automation and complete control over DAW parameters from the console channel rotaries. There are multiple stereo busses or multiple 5.1 stems to make the best use of a full set of 5.1 pan/positioning controls on each channel.

With an order book that?s full into 2007, and consoles delivered co-incident with its introduction at the recent 121st Audio Engineering Society Convention, Duality is already a commercial success.
