Short Film to Ease Suffering of Those Diagnosed with Schizophrenia

Portland, OR (PRWEB) June 03, 2014

Schizophrenia can be a debilitating disease causing a person to live in constant fear questioning reality. Among the many treatments available to help a person suffering from this disease, perhaps the greatest is the hope found in hearing another persons success in overcoming schizophrenia in order to live an abundant life. Filmmaker Eric Lindstrom is developing a short film Cat that will explore the path to healing from schizophrenia and has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $61,332 by July 1 to fund the films production.

The films main character, Cat, seeks to come to terms with schizophrenia by walking through the deserts of Oregon. By removing herself from the constructs of civilization, Cat discovers a natural order in nature and the wilderness that serves as a time of meditation. Cat is having a difficult time with the abstract idea of trying to solve her own thought processes, said Lindstrom. The hypnotic and repetitive walking motion of her journey helps Cat exist in the present moment and return her focus to find peace.

For Lindstrom, schizophrenia is more than a concept on which to base his short film. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia more than 25 years ago and has been on his own path to healing. I lived in fear every day until I met a survivor that shared her story with me, said Lindstrom. Her success helped inspire me, and I want to share that inspiration with others in the mental health community. The goal of my film is to relieve suffering and to be an example of having harnessed the enhanced imagination that goes with schizophrenia.

The movie will be shot on 35 mm film, to capture the richness and contrast of Oregons deserts and will run approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Cat will be played by actress Deborah Jensen, and the film will feature original music by Pokey Twig.

Supporters of the films crowdfunding campaign will receive perks, such as collectible photos from the movies 35 mm stills, DVD copies of the movie, signed original screenplays, screen-printed t-shirts promoting the film, name mention in the films credits, and invitation to a special screening of the film. Supporters contributing $1,000 will be named an executive producer and receive VIP passes to a special screening and after party. Those contributing $5,000 will have a cameo on the film in addition to becoming an executive producer.
