Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan on AT&T U-Verse GigaPower Winning All 6 NC Communities

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 17, 2014

AT&T announced today that the town of Carrboro, NC has authorized AT&T to deliver fiber-fed broadband speeds up to 1 Gbps as well as advanced TV services using the U-verse with GigaPower service. See this July 17, AT&T press release.

Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.

This is the sixth of six communities in the Research Triangle/Piedmont Triad area to join a North Carolina Next Generation Network (NCNGN) initiative.

The six cities are Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, Winston-Salem and now Carrboro. It also includes four leading universities.

Congratulations to AT&T and to the six communities who have reached agreement and will now have the benefit of very highs speed, ultra-fast Internet service, says technology analyst Jeff Kagan.

AT&T seems to be the fastest growing competitor to date in this new ultra-high speed Internet service race, says analyst Jeff Kagan

AT&T U-verse with GigaPower has already launched in Austin Texas and will arrive in portions of Dallas soon. AT&T has also discussed deploying this ultra-fast network to an additional 100 US cities.

This is the kind of speed that every city and every customer seems to be demanding these days. It is only available in a few markets today, says tech analyst Kagan.

Market after market will start to see this ultra high speed Internet service roll out over the next several years, says telecom analyst Kagan.

This is the next big battlefield. Competitors are lining up. AT&T is making an aggressive push into this new area. They want to lead as this segment develops. An aggressive rollout like this will play a large role in realizing that goal, says wireless analyst Kagan.

The next big question is how quickly will this new space unfold across the entire United States. This will take time. Some will be early on the list and others will be later on the list. However we will all have access to this very high speed service sooner or later from AT&T and other competitors in this space, says Kagan.
