HBO's Looking's Raul Castillo Talks About Show Being Compared to Queer as Folk and Girls and Discusses Show's Storylines on Maria Menounos' AfterBuzz TV Network

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 20, 2014

HBO premiered a new series last night called Looking, which chronicles a group of gay friends living in San Francisco. Raul Castillo, who portays Richie on the show, gave an exclusive interview on Extra host Maria Menounos' aftershow network, AfterBuzz TV. The hosts, Scott Moore, Kylie Hodges and Ronnie Jr, interviewed Castillo as part of the network's Looking aftershow, where Castillo discusses comparisons of the show to Queer as Folk and Girls and divolges some info on the storylines and character arcs for the season.

Since the show is brand new, Castillo was happy to explain the backstory of the show, saying, It was written as a short film by Michael Lannan called Lorimer that was originally set in Brooklyn... And they changed it to San Francisco... a great city to explore the lives of these characters.

In talking about the backdrop of San Francisco, Castillo went on to say, The creators did a great job of incorporating the city throughout the season. Youll see throughout the story line San Francisco becomes another character throughout the show and the way NYC becomes so integral to a lot of other storylines were familiar with, I hope San Francisco will do that for 'Looking'.

Richie, Castillo's character, meets Jonathan Groff's character on the subway in last night's pilot. When asked about that relationship and particular scene, Castillo states, Its so great he has that scene with the doctor Matthew Wilkensons character and the date goes horribly wrong and those comments are out of left field. And thats Patricks life and thats how we find love when were not looking for it. And I was excited about it and I think its a very beautifully written scene. And Jonathan is such a great scene partner and supportive actor and friend and it was such a fun scene.

Later, Castillo also gave insight into Richie's arc for the season: I think Richie is one of the most complex characters Ive ever had the pleasure of playing and hes beautifully drawn and the writers have did such an amazing job of continuing to surprise not only Patrick but hopefully the audience as well revealing things about him in layers and colors that you dont normally see a lot of times.

Audiences are already making comparisons of the show to Queer as Folk and Girls. When asked whether the comparisons are true, Castillo says, Those are such great shows with loyal fan bases and I think its great people are thinking about the show in those terms. I feel confident the show speaks for itself in its own world, and its not trying to be anything. Its just trying to be Looking. Our creator Michael Haigh and executive producer Michael Lannan have put a wonderful family together of actors and designers and everybody has worked really hard on it, and I think when you have that level of dedication the work will speak for itself, and its amazing to be a part of the conversation when people are comparing it to these shows.
