European Utility Week 2013: Siemens solutions ensure a grid ready for the future
Amsterdam will once again welcome some 8,000 smart energy experts
September 04, 2013 --
Siemens returns to European Utility Week as the exclusive Diamond Sponsor. "Utilities are facing huge challenges. The growing infeed of decentrally generated energy and technical as well as non-technical losses are putting financial pressure on the industry," says Dr Jan Mrosik, CEO of Siemens' Smart Grid Division and keynote speaker at European Utility Week. In addition, "aging infrastructure and a higher frequency of natural disasters are threatening the reliability of supply," he adds. "Siemens Smart Grid is committed to advancing the businesses of utilities and grid operators in response to these challenges. We are back in Amsterdam at Europe's benchmark show for the utility industry to substantiate this commitment," Dr Mrosik says.
According to the CEO of Siemens' Smart Grid Division "technology in the utility business is fast moving and we need to constantly innovate to keep track with developments." He believes that "the dramatically growing role of software in energy management offers the opportunity to answer the challenges the industry is facing."
To underpin the company's innovative prowess in this arena, Siemens' Smart Grid Division will launch a series of software solutions during European Utility Week. "At the same time, we strongly believe that only an end-to-end-portfolio covering all levels of a smart grid will provide the answers our customers need to run their businesses more efficiently towards increased reliability, future growth and business success," Dr Mrosik says. Therefore, in addition Siemens Smart Grid will unveil innovative new hardware which provides data to this software.
Dr Mrosik expands: "In a 'software world' or a world where the power grid has started to become a large part of the 'internet of things,' one cannot succeed without leveraging partners. That's why we pursue the strategy of creating an ecosystem of best in class IT partners for Siemens Smart Grid."
Siemens is the perfect partner
Says European Utility Week's programme director Elisabeth Brusse: "Siemens is the perfect partner for European Utility Week, which is a unique smart energy platform. With this year's event theme, namely 'Pulling in one direction', and the growing importance being placed on collaboration, interoperability, shared targets and joint ambitions, we are proud to have this best in class end-to-end solution provider involved in the show."
Siemens Smart Grid's unique vision of intelligently automated infrastructure will be demonstrated through a variety of exhibits at the company's Booth 1.A09, through the keynote presentation given by Siemens Smart Grid CEO Dr Jan Mrosik during the opening session, as well as presentations given by various Siemens experts in the conference programme and technology plaza. The exhibits at the booth range from grid planning solutions to network control and energy automation systems for distribution networks to smart buildings in smart grids.
During European Utility Week, Siemens will also chair the ICT and IT/OT Integration & Strategy Session on Wednesday 16 October (14.00-17.00). It will be moderated by Dr Volker Distelrath, Siemens Smart Grid, Technology & Innovation. This session will outline implementation examples and strategies for IT/OT integration and usage of big data analytics as well as discuss opportunities how to incorporate potential privacy regulatory requirements by design.
European Utility Week will feature an international exhibition with more than 350 solution providers, 200 industry expert speakers with some 8000 conference delegates and expo visitors, including representatives from more than 300 leading utilities.
