CSR Delivers Cutting Edge Bluetooth® Capabilities With First Bluetooth v4.1 Listings

December 11, 2013 --
DMN Newswire--2013-12-11--Latest Bluetooth SIG listings demonstrate CSR?s continued leadership in Bluetooth

Cambridge, UK and San Jose, California, USA ? 11 December 2013 ? CSR plc (LSE: CSR; NASDAQ: CSRE) is proud to announce the listing of its first Bluetooth® 4.1 qualified solutions for its Bluetooth dual mode and Bluetooth single mode devices. Bluetooth 4.1, which was announced last week by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, is set to greatly improve the flexibility of classic Bluetooth and Bluetooth Smart communications. It will allow developers to design ever more attractive, secure and functional wearables and wireless sensors which can communicate with one another, as well as with multiple Bluetooth hubs at the same time.

?Bluetooth innovation is in our DNA,? says Anthony Murray, Senior Vice President, Business Group at CSR. ?We were the first company to deliver a single chip Bluetooth solution to market and since then we have continually reaffirmed our commitment to the technology by bringing the best Bluetooth advancements to market. We are members of the Bluetooth SIG?s Core Specification Working Group and have played an instrumental role in developing the Bluetooth 4.1 specification. Coupled with us being one of the first to list Bluetooth 4.1 compliant solutions, this reinforces our commitment to supporting this exciting specification update.?

CSR will implement all of the important enhancements introduced in the Bluetooth 4.1 specification in its upcoming connectivity platforms, from single mode low energy and wireless audio platforms through to discrete connectivity products. This will allow developers to employ the latest Bluetooth capabilities in their devices and expand their offerings to new markets.

Some examples of what Bluetooth 4.1 can enable include:

Introducing AES encryption to deliver more secure connections. This feature allows wireless headsets to target new markets such as governmental, medical and banking applications where strong security is paramount; and

Enabling headsets, speakers and soundbars to be controlled by a dedicated Bluetooth Smart remote control, or mobile app, whilst concurrently streaming audio from a completely different device

?Since the advent of Bluetooth Smart the applications for Bluetooth technology have exploded beyond contacts, message and audio transmissions to connecting a new ecosystem of accessories such as the Nike FuelBand SE and Samsung Galaxy Gear,? continues Murray. ?According to a recent report by IHS[1] unit shipments of wearable technology will reach 210 million by 2018. Bluetooth 4.1 is the key to unlocking the next stage in the consumer experience by enabling these devices to communicate intelligently together and to the hub devices all at once. For example, imagine a heart rate monitor showing your vital signs concurrently on your work out machine?s screen, your sports watch, smartphone and even your TV. CSR?s Bluetooth 4.1 compliant platforms will make these kinds of scenarios seamless and hassle free for consumers.?
