ArtRage from Ambient Design gets a significant speed and feature boost in the latest version upgrade. The Mac software is free for all registered users of ArtRage 4. In addition to a hefty speed increase in its 64-bit engine build, the new version also has support for stylus tilt and more.
The big news in the newest feature is certainly the 64-bit build, which supports 64-bit processors so that you can work on larger canvases and work more quickly. Don?t worry if you are still 32-bit, there is still support for you.
For me, the big news in this build is a series of small, but important features that will help artists creative process.
Live Pencil Tilt feature now supports the tilt input that Wacom provides. If you?re using a Wacom Cintiq or Intuos pro series, you can take advantage of more natural gesture input.
Type is a little less impressive - but only because ArtRage does such an excellent job of mimicking traditional media, I have never used its typesetting potential. If you do, then the upgrades will probably appeal to you. Of course, it plays well with all of my downloaded fonts from my CreativeCloud Typekit library as well.
ArtRage has always (as long as I?ve known it) supported layers, and more importantly BLEND MODES that can be transferred to a Photoshop document. The natural tools found in ArtRage are intuitive and responsive.
Although the entry price is a little less than $50US, the upgrade is free. And, if you already have an older version (ArtRage 2, ArtRage 3 Studio, or ArtRage 3 Studio Pro), you can register your software and upgrade for 50% off. http://members.artrage.com
