American Red Cross Elects Three New Members to its Board of Governors

WASHINGTON, July 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Red Cross elected three new members to its Board of Governors: Ajay Banga; Emilio Romano; and Carol B. Tom.

The American Red Cross is led by a Board of Governors with all of the powers of governing and directing, as well as overseeing the management of the business and affairs of the organization. The new board members were elected for three-year terms by delegates from local Red Cross chapters and blood regions across the country at the Annual Meeting of the Red Cross held on June 26. The board now has 17 governors.

Ajay Banga is president and chief executive officer of MasterCard and a member of its board of directors.Prior to joining MasterCard in 2009, Mr. Banga was chief executive officer of Citigroup Asia Pacific. He has also worked for Nestl, India, and PepsiCo.Mr. Banga is a member of the Board of Overseers of the Weill Cornell Medical College. He is currently chairman of the U.S.-India Business Council and was also appointed a member of the U.S.-India CEO Forum.He serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the Business Roundtable and chairs its Information and Technology Initiative.Mr. Banga is also a member of the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum.In addition, he is a member of The Business Council, the Council on Foreign Relations, the International Advisory Board of the Moscow School of Management (Skolkovo), The Economic Club of New York, the board of The Financial Services Roundtable, the New York City Ballet, and The Partnership for New York City. Mr. Banga is also a fellow of the Foreign Policy Association and was awarded the Foreign Policy Association Medal in 2012.

Emilio Romano was the president of Telemundo Media from October 2011 to October 2013. In that capacity, he led the Telemundo broadcast network, its 15 owned stations, the Emmy Award-winning News and Sports divisions, the Entertainment Division and Telemundo Studios - the number one producer of original Spanish-language primetime content for U.S. Hispanics. Romano's career spans the media, aviation and Internet industries, where he has held a wide range of senior leadership positions over the past two decades, from start-up entrepreneurial roles to the head of large scale business operations. Mr. Romano is the president of IATA's International Airline Training Fund Council, and has served on the boards of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Association of Latin American Air Carriers (ALTA), and Tam Linhas Aereas. Mr. Romano was a professor for the doctoral program in Tax Law at the Escuela Libre de Derecho, and has been a guest speaker, lecturer and professor for several universities and institutes.

Carol B. Tom has served as chief financial officer at The Home Depot since May 2001 and was named executive vice president of corporate services in January 2007. Carol provides leadership in the areas of financial services, strategic business development and growth initiatives, real estate and store construction. Her corporate finance duties include financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, divisional finance, internal audit, investor relations, treasury, tax and financial operations.In addition to her responsibilities at The Home Depot, Carol is also a member of the UPS board of directors and serves as chair of its audit committee.From 2008-2013, Carol served as a board member for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, in both a board chair and board vice-chair capacity. Community service is a priority for Carol. She is an active volunteer, serving as a member of The Committee of 200, the Atlanta Botanical Garden board of directors, the Georgia Tech Advisory Council and the board of trustees for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.
